Wir Sprechen
2024
Lead Researcher and Project Initiator
Developed within the Indigenous Advocacy and Research Program, Soul of Nations Foundation in collaboration with the U.S. Embassy Germany.
Wir Sprechen examines the politics of language, belonging, and recognition in contemporary Germany. The project explores how bodies are asked to perform fluency in order to be recognized as legitimate.
Through interviews, dialogue sessions, and sociological analysis, the study traces how language functions as a gatekeeping mechanism shaping access to education, employment, and civic participation. It asks who is heard without translation, who must constantly adapt, and how speech becomes tied to citizenship and worth.
Situated at the intersection of advocacy and research, Wir Sprechen positions language as infrastructure — a site where power circulates and belonging is negotiated.
